Our Cleaning Process
How long does a carpet take to dry after cleaning?
Carpets cleaned by 4 Seasons Carpet Clean are usually dry within 2–4 hours, because our hot water extraction equipment removes most of the moisture during cleaning. Drying is faster with good ventilation and warm rooms, and slower for thick or wool carpets. You can walk on the carpet almost immediately in clean socks — just avoid heavy furniture until it is fully dry.
What carpet cleaning method do you use?
We use hot water extraction (also called steam cleaning), the method recommended by most carpet manufacturers. Hot water and cleaning solution are injected deep into the pile, then extracted under powerful suction — lifting embedded dirt, allergens and stains in one pass. It cleans deeper than dry or shampoo methods and leaves far less residue. How hot water extraction works.
How often should I have my carpets professionally cleaned?
Most homes should have carpets professionally cleaned every 12–18 months, and every 6–12 months for households with pets, children, allergies or high foot traffic. Regular cleaning extends carpet life and protects any manufacturer warranty. Offices and commercial spaces usually need cleaning every 3–6 months depending on footfall.
Do I need to move my furniture before you arrive?
You do not need to move heavy furniture — our technicians move sofas and tables and clean underneath as part of the service. We ask only that you clear small items, breakables and anything valuable from the floor beforehand. Let us know in advance if there is very heavy or fragile furniture so we can plan the visit.
Safety & Materials
Is carpet cleaning safe for children and pets?
Yes — we use eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaning solutions that are safe for children and pets once the carpet is dry. There are no harsh chemical smells, and our hot water extraction removes most of the solution during cleaning. We recommend keeping pets and small children off the carpet until it is fully dry, usually 2–4 hours.
Can you wash a sheepskin rug?
Yes — sheepskin rugs can be professionally cleaned, but they should not be machine-washed or soaked, as heat and heavy water damage the leather backing and matt the wool. We clean sheepskin by hand using cool water and a gentle wool-safe solution, then dry it flat to keep it soft. More on cleaning sheepskin rugs safely.
Can you clean leather and delicate upholstery?
Yes — we clean leather, suede, velvet and other delicate upholstery using fabric-specific methods and conditioners. Leather is cleaned and re-conditioned to prevent cracking; delicate fabrics are tested first and cleaned with low-moisture methods to avoid watermarks. We always check the manufacturer cleaning code before starting. Leather sofa cleaning.
Are your technicians insured?
Yes — all 4 Seasons Carpet Clean technicians are fully insured and trained. We have operated in London since 2016 and carry public liability insurance, so your home and belongings are covered during the visit.
Stains & Common Problems
Can you remove red wine stains from carpet?
Yes — most red wine stains can be fully removed by professional cleaning, especially if treated quickly. Blot (never rub) fresh spills with a clean cloth, and avoid DIY treatments that can set the stain. Our hot water extraction and targeted stain solutions lift most wine stains completely. Red wine stain guide.
Can you get old or dried blood stains out of a mattress?
Yes — dried blood stains can usually be removed from mattresses and carpets using cold water and enzyme-based treatment. Never use hot water on blood, as heat sets the protein and makes the stain permanent. Professional cleaning lifts most old blood stains safely. How to remove blood stains from a mattress.
Can carpet cleaning get rid of fleas?
Yes — professional hot water extraction kills fleas at every life stage and removes eggs and larvae from deep in the carpet pile, where household vacuums and sprays often miss them. For a full infestation, combine professional cleaning with vet-recommended pet treatment. More on carpet cleaning and fleas.
How do you get rid of smells and pet odours in carpet?
Persistent carpet odours — from pets, damp or spills — are removed by deep hot water extraction combined with a deodorising treatment that neutralises odour at the source rather than masking it. Surface sprays only cover smells temporarily; the odour lives deep in the pile and underlay. How to get rid of carpet smell.
My carpet flooded — can it be saved?
Often yes, if you act within 24–48 hours before mould sets in. We offer emergency flood and water-damage carpet cleaning across London, extracting water, drying the carpet and underlay, and sanitising to prevent mould and odour.
